Susan Rankin Reid
Education Consultant
I have a wide range of experience and skills that support the raising of standards, teaching and learning and aspirations in schools, or group of schools.
I will meet with you to discuss your needs and design and agree a package of support.
This could be a one-off training, or a longer term analysis and planned package which includes coaching for middle leaders, learning walks and reviews, a mock inspection, action planning…
Current Modules I offer include
-
Support for classroom teachers including observation and coaching for development
-
Support for middle leaders, taking the skills of teachers in your school and developing their leadership skills and abilities
-
Support for a subject area, or an aspect (Special Needs, English as an Additional Language, Gifted and Talented) working with management and teams of teachers developing a strategic overview of their work, planning for progress across the school
-
Support for School Leaders, working in education in a rapidly changing world. This package could include data analysis, mock inspection/s, curriculum planning, action planning, coaching for success
I travel extensively for work and will consider all countries and types of support.
Areas of educational expertise include:
-
Early Years Foundation Stage – working with teachers working with children in the early years of their education, providing a rich and dynamic basis for their education, for now and for the future;
-
English as an Additional Language – working with teachers and support staff, supporting their understanding of how to meet the needs of children learning to learn in English and other languages;
-
Teaching and Learning – planning for success, increasing progress, raising attainment;
-
Data Analysis – As an experienced school improvement officer, I have an excellent track record of using data effectively to identify both successes and areas for development, and I can teach you to do this too;
-
Ofsted trained – I can support you and your school to make inspection meaningful, through mock inspections, inspection preparation support and post inspection action planning and development;
-
Good practice – I have taken my experience of working with teachers all over central London and abroad, and distilled my commitment to child centred education, in all ages. I have a clear vision of success, including success in exams and tests, but also success in providing an exciting, dynamic education for all children.
About
I did my initial teacher training in Tasmania, Australia and worked as a class teacher for the Tasmanian Education Department. On moving to Sydney, I opened two Child Care Centres in Sydney, both are still functioning well today.
Following my move to the United Kingdom in 1989, I returned to classroom teaching in a range of age groups before moving into working with children learning English as an Additional Language. As a result of this move, I studied for my Masters Degree, in order to bring more rigor and understanding to my work.
I then went to Westminster Education as an Advisory Teacher and subsequently became Team Leader of the Language and Ethnic Minority Achievement Service.
I also delivered successful courses as part of the CPD programme offered at The Institute of Education, University of London and contributed to writing an MA course in Bilingual Education.
I completed my Ofsted training and was signed off in 2010 as part of my on-going commitment to my own professional development and understanding of school improvement.
